Why I made the move into recruitment
Hello! My name is Becca and I’m an Associate Consultant on Taylor Root’s commerce and industry in-house team.
I studied Law with European Law at Keble College, University of Oxford. Following my graduation in the summer of 2021, I came across legal recruitment and thought it was interesting; a sociable career option with great motivational incentives.
Taylor Root appealed to me because of the brand and the culture; we have offices across 14 different countries with plenty of opportunity to travel and relocate. From my job search I found this very unique to Taylor Root.
We are also leaders within the global legal market; as one of the partner’s told me in my interviews (and it’s true), there is no cold calling at Taylor Root. Clients and candidates are very aware of our reputation, givine me the chance to work with some amazing brands across the technology, media, and retail sphere.
I have placed lawyers in large global giants such as Cognizant, ebay and Bally’s Corporation, plus exciting brands such as Manolo Blahnik and The Roald Dahl Story Company. Within six months I was promoted from a Resourcer to an Associate Consultant. The exposure and responsibility I was given early on cannot be replicated in other places. You are rewarded for what you put in.
I have learned that recruitment is a never-ending learning process. There is always something new to learn and take on. A new scenario or situation will present itself that you haven’t experienced before. It’s challenging and keeps things interesting.
My transition from university into recruitment has been made easier owing to the fantastic team we have at Taylor Root. From partner to management to consultant level, everyone is welcoming and always happy to lend a hand. Though recruitment is competitive, we keep a fantastic team spirit and support each other.
Legal recruitment wasn’t necessarily a path I saw myself going down but I can say for certain that it was the correct path for me. Unlike other grad schemes, here at Taylor Root you are given autonomy early on. There is no inane corporate structure where a set number of years are needed at the company to progress.
You are truly valued based on your performance and you will be rewarded. It is a great place to work if you are ambitious, sociable and work well under pressure – with commission based incentives there are clear goals to aim for.
