On Tuesday 22nd March 2017, The SR Group was delighted to volunteer at the first UKHarvest CEO Cook Off Event at Old Billingsgate.
Senior business leaders swapped their suits for aprons, and took up frontline positions in the kitchen, with some of the best chefs in the UK. The challenge was to cook a banquet for a guest list full of everyday heroes who work in UK schools and hospitals.
To help fundraise, the CEOs (and their companies) worked towards individual fundraising targets in the run up to the event with all donations going directly to UKHarvest, who save quality surplus food from going to landfill and redistribute it to people in need.
The CEO CookOff was started by Ronni Kahn’s OzHarvest in Australia, back in 2012, and has raised over AU$5,800,000 since then. The UK arm of the charity, UKHarvest, was launched at the end of 2016.
The CEO CookOff is attacking the three-way problem of obesity, malnutrition and food waste in one go. All money raised will go towards improving food education for 13 million children in the UK, will save edible food from being buried in landfill and help to redirect food to those who don’t have enough.
The event was a huge success and by the end of the night over £500,000 had been donated towards the cause.
The SR Group is delighted to be partnering with both UKHarvest and OzHarvest and look forward to volunteering with them throughout the year.
A huge thank you to all the wonderful Chefs & CEOs who participated on the night.
